Jack Cox Cup Fixtures Announced 15:22 22 June 2011
The first round of the Jack Cox 2011 tournament is over, and the next round of fixtures have been announced. Having qualified for the Cup this season, our next games are on 21 July and 10 August.
Offices in shock loss to Bodleian 8:54 15 June 2011
An understrength Offices side (we only had nine players at 4pm, big thanks to Mark Norris for stepping up at the last minute to give us 10) bowled and caught well to restrict the Bodleian to 133, including a career best 4-24 from Kevin Rodd. A disastrous start with the bat, however (31-5 at one point) made it very hard to chase the target. A strong fightback, from Steve Lakelin (31) in particular, took us close; we only finished 21 runs short, all out for 112 with 8 balls remaining. The Offices have already qualified for the Cup, and look forward to results coming through from Group D before working on their tactics for the second group phase!
Offices beat Biochemistry - Rundle sets records 11:50 1 June 2011
Revenge was administered last night as an Offices side featuring three débutants chased down a target of 156 with apparent ease. Chris Williams, Kevin Rodd, captain Mark Rundle and newbie Michael Ealey all contributed with scores over 30 as the game was won with two overs to spare. In the field, the Offices opening bowlers started well, but the plaudits goes to Ealey and Rundle, who shared six wickets in the final death overs.
Psycho's 4-19 is possibly a personal best, but definitely contained a hat-trick, and finally pushed him over the 100 wickets barrier. This makes him the first Offices player to take 100 wickets, a fine achievement.
New Management Committee 11:06 13 May 2011
The Offices team is moving into a new era, following the retirement of Andy Darley, and a contraction of the fixture list to mostly Jack Cox games this season. There is also a new management committee structure in place, to enable team administration to run smoothly and take the brunt of the work away from one or two individuals. As such, I am happy to announce the following roles:
- Captain: James Boon - James is be in charge of the team on the pitch, and has overall responsibility for the team and the committee.
- Vice Captain: Mark Rundle - Mark offers support to all committee members and will deputise as captain when James is absent.
- Coach: Kevin Rodd - Kevin is in charge of organising training sessions.
- Selector: Matthew Noonan - Matthew is responsible for getting 11 players onto the pitch for each game, and will conduct most communication.
- Webmaster: James Boon - James is responsible for keeping the website up to date.
- Treasurer: Kevin Rodd - Kevin collects match fees, makes sure all money is accounted for, and all bills are paid.
Jack Cox result 08:22 12 May 2011
Our Jack Cox campaign got off to a good start last night, as we successfully defended 196 against Stats Medawar. James Boon, Chris Williams, Tom Dunsdon and Matt Noonan all retired with 30, and débutant Steve Lakelin stunned all with a powerful unbeaten 25 in the closing overs of our innings. The fielding was highlighted by a number of sensational catches, including two crackers for keeper Tom Malloy and one diving effort at point by Kevin Rodd. Simon Griffin bowled well up front, and the death combination of Mark Rundle and James Boon once again came up trumps as Stats fell ten runs short. The captain's report recommends work on ground fielding before our next game.
Tour game 16:14 11 May 2011
Don't forget that we are playing against Saxlingham Gents, a touring side from Norfolk, on Friday 8 July. The game is an afternoon game at Jesus College, due to start at 1.30pm. Please make every effort to be available for what promises to be a very enjoyable game, followed by a night out in Oxford!
Welcome to the 2011 season 16:03 11 May 2011
The 2011 season starts today, with our first Jack Cox game against Stats Medawar. Having won the Plate last season, we're looking to build on that success this time out. There's been a shake-up this year, as Andy Darley has stepped away from involvement with the team after many years hard work, middle order hitting, and bowling into the wind. At least, that's what it seemed like! New management committee details will be confirmed soon. I also plan to update the website and keep it going during the season this time...
Website update 12:08 29 July 2009
I've been updating the website recently - we came across some archives last week, so fixtures now go back to 2000, with old match reports included, for those who like to reminisce, or learn about the history of the team. We're going through the old scorebooks, in the hope of scanning in old scoresheets and uploading these, while also auditing the statistical records and adding a few things in the stats area of the website. Some old photos will go up, we'll add a history section, and a section for the mixed games (now known as the Peedle Cup). If anyone has any ideas about further website developments, or anything, please let us know!
Jack Cox update 11:54 29 July 2009
Another Jack Cox season comes to an end. We weren't as successful as we have been, with a few players missing from the "golden generation" of Offices cricket, but we made the Trophy group stage, having won our first two games, before losing all three in the second phase of the competition. Onwards to next year! There's still a handful of friendlies to play, and the team awards are all still up for grabs, so play hard and earn that winter break...
Photos 11:25 12 May 2009
Zakir "Chukka" Khan has uploaded a whole bunch of cool photos from last season, and some from the first game of this season. These are also linked in our photo archive.
Result 09:54 12 May 2009
The Offices started their Jack Cox campaign in good form, beating Plant Sciences by 33 runs. Débutant Kevin "Lightning" Rodd was the star with the bat with a well compiled 30, while Chris "Razor" Sharpe led the way with the ball, taking three wickets in an over to destroy the opposition's middle order. Our next game in the competition is against Computing Services on May 28, with a couple of friendlies between now and then.
Jack Cox Fixtures 08:53 17 April 2009
The 2009 Jack Cox Trophy fixtures have been released. We're in a group with Plant Sciences (6 May 2009), Computing Sciences (28 May) and Chemistry (17 June). Revenge will be sought in the Chemistry fixture - they knocked us out in the semi finals last year before beating Physics in the final... Check out the Jack Cox website for more details.

General Update 09:52 14 August 2008
Having beaten Engineering in the final group game (slightly more comfortably than the three run winning margin suggests), we now face Chemistry in the semi-final. This game was due to take place last night, but due to poor weather it has been rescheduled to Weds 20 August. During the Engineering game, Pops Williams became the fifth Offices batsman to break the 1,000 run barrier.
Please note that the final has now been put back to Wednesday 27th August - make a note in your diaries.
We comfortably rolled over CSW by seven wickets in a friendly last Wednesday, a game in which Henry Coleman leaped to the top of the wicket takers for the season. Our next game is against RAL this Friday. Good luck guys - let's improve on our three-match winning streak - our best of the season so far!
Finally, please check out Big Bird's match report from tour (link on the fixtures page) - he's finally completed his masterpiece! Tour photos have been received and will go online when I get time...
Jack Cox cancellation 11:08 28 July 2008
Our game on Friday 1 August against Stats has been cancelled. Apologies for this - Stats claim they cannot field a team and so we're attempting to claim both points from the match. Our game on Thursday 31 July against Engineering is still on.
Boon breaks 2,000 barrier 11:04 28 July 2008
In a tight game at Queen's College against Isis, skipper Babs Boon scored 51 before retiring, and in the process became the first Offices player to reach 2,000 runs for the club. He has done so in just over four years, having made his debut in 2004, at an average of 55.81. Pops Williams made 41 at the top of the order to form the backbone of the Offices' 138, with help from Garlic Manaut and debutants Zakir Khan and Richard Foster. We bowled tidily to restrict Isis to 126 in reply, with Grinder Organ bagging two late wickets, the others going to Razor Sharpe and Psycho Rundle.
Milestones 14:18 19 June 2008
In the Jack Cox game against OUCE/Geography, skipper Boon took his 50th career wicket for the team, the fifth player to do so (behind Rundle, Darley, Sula, and Organ), and the third to reach the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets (Rundle achieved this in 2006, Darley in 2007). In other news, Chris Sharpe is fast approaching ex-skipper Joe Nickel's career tally of 44 wickets, while Chris Williams is just 60 runs away from becoming the fifth player to reach 1,000 career runs, and Joe Organ and Jason Sula are fighting it out to become the next person to reach the 1,000/50 double. Contact Mark Rundle to find out the latest odds...
Game cancelled 10:36 19 June 2008
Unfortunately, we've had to cancel our midweek game against FFTMCC on 31 July, due to a clash with our Jack Cox game against Engineering. A mutually convenient alternative date cannot be found, and so the game will not take place this year. There is, however, a chance to match up against our old foes on Saturday 9 August, in a game to celebrate their 10th anniversary as a cricket club. It should be a good day out, at Jesus College - please make yourselves available and bring some supporters and some booze!
Nets 10:13 19 June 2008
Our remaining net sessions at the University Club have been booked for:
Wednesday 25 June
Wednesday 9 July
Wednesday 23 July
Wednesday 20 August
For each session, one lane has been booked from 5.30 to 6.30pm. Cost is £2 per head, and there is a bar at the club for post-nets refreshment! The more in attendance, the better the session, so please come along!
Availability 16:12 18 June 2008
Please check the fixture list and let Andy Darley know your availability for the forthcoming games! If you're interesting in playing in the Sri Lankan day at Twickenham, please let Helen Dugdale know...
Results round-up 16:02 18 June 2008
While I've been too busy at work to update this website, we've played three games. St Johns beat us by five wickets in a friendly on 5 June, before we fought back with Jack Cox wins against Bodleian and OUCE/Geography. We've now qualified for the next phase as group winners, carrying forward our win against OUCE/Geography. The other teams in the group are Stats/Medawar (9 July) and Engineering (31 July).
BODLEIAN game rescheduled 14:09 29 May 2008
The Jack Cox game against the Bodleian has been rearranged for Friday 13 June 2008, at the University Club on Mansfield Road. Please let Andy Darley know your availability.
OUP looking for players 09:11 29 May 2008
Oxford Univiersity Press are playing Gardenfields CC in St. Albans, in the cathedral grounds, which is a fine setting. They are due to start at 1.30pm, and teas are provided. A minibus has been arranged, which will set off from Oxford at around 11am. Due to the current inclement weather they will be making a decision early on Sunday morning about whether to make the trip.
They currently require three more players for the game - if you are interested, please email Chris "Big Bird" Heron.
BODLEIAN Jack Cox game CANCELLED 13:58 28 May 2008
Unsurprisingly enough, tonight's game against the BODLEIAN has been cancelled - we are waiting to hear about any reschedulements. Nets have also been cancelled - apologies all round but, despite superhuman (or are monkeys subhuman?) appearances, I can't control the weather...
Tour results 13:51 28 May 2008
The tourists returned to Oxford on Monday, mostly in one piece. The match results are now in, and the scorecards are linked on the fixtures page. Full reports to follow from the tour journalists, but the big news is that we won our first ever game on tour! The Mitres were the unlucky team, who somehow managed to let us score a record 284 runs in our 40 overs, despite the hangovers...
Paddy in "not dropping ball" controversy 15:58 22 May 2008
Apparently Paddy didn't drop Steph's hattrick ball against Blackwells. The ball fell short of his graceful dive. He's told me twice now, and maintains his viewpoint in the match report. Your webmaster wasn't there, and can only go on third-hand hearsay... Any further opinions on the matter should be emailed to the team captain for further review.
Random news 15:02 22 May 2008
According to our webstats, two people have found this page by googling "Stephane Farenga". Dennis is now officially the most popular member of our team. Unless he was self-googling, that is...
Match reports 14:43 22 May 2008
Match reports for the first three games of the season are now online - to read them, visit the fixtures page and click on the report link for each game. There might be an end-of-season award for the best/funniest/most bizarre report - remember this when it's your turn to write one! Don't forget you can also check out the scorebook for each game - we are planning on uploading an archive of older games as well, so keep checking this website!
